The Child and Family Support Team (CFST) Initiative in Vance County Schools consists of six teams of one nurse and one social worker. The teams are strategically placed at six schools throughout the district. The primary responsibility of the teams is to identify and screen students who are possibly at risk of academic failure or out-of-home placement. Once at risk students are identified, the focus of the CFST becomes obtaining needed services for them and their families to support their academic success and home permanence. Services are planned, coordinated, and monitored through the use of CFST meetings. The CFST is a unique partnership between a social worker and a nurse to respond to the total needs of students and their families.
