National Beta is proud to announce Vance County Schools as a 2021-2022 National District of Distinction. This award is given to those deserving districts who offer National Beta in all schools in their district, and who induct qualifying students in all eligible grades 6-12 in our traditional schools. Vance County Schools is one of only 36 districts to receive this award nationwide.
As members of the North Carolina High-Tech Learning Accelerator (NCHTLA) Advisory Council, two of our high school students, Briannah Royster and Joshua Hernandez, and our innovation lead, Dr. Destiney Ross-Putney, had the opportunity to participate in a two-day design lab in Wilmington, NC. Thirty-two students and nineteen innovation leads across the state worked in collaborative groups to tackle the design question, "What kinds of learning experiences might you design to help students learn about, prepare for, and pursue high-tech jobs?"
Arts Alive 2022 gave us a day full of art and appreciation, as our Vance County Schools students showcased their talents through visual and performing arts, as well as a culinary art experience. Let's congratulate Jessie Trujillo, winner of the Superintendent's Choice Award, and the Vance County School's Board of Education, recipient of the Champion of Arts Award. Congratulations!
Vance County Schools held a ribbon cutting today for Gargoyle Garden, a musical garden located at the Center for Innovation (CFI), located at 219 Charles Street. The garden is filled with musical instruments that provide experiences for students to learn about beats, music, echo, reverberation and much more! The garden is named after the gargoyles positioned across the facade as part of the 1930's construction of the building.
Students at Dabney Elementary School have been afforded the opportunity to enhance their reading selections, as their library grew substantially during 2021-2022. With hundreds of new titles, students are renewing their love for reading and finding books that match their interests. This incredible enhancement was made possible through the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.
