Secondary Mathematics
Purpose:
The Instructional Specialist for 6-12 Mathematics provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the mathematics program for grades 6-12 and ensures the effective implementation of the North Carolina State Standards.
The Math Instructional Specialist develops, implements, and monitors the 6-12 mathematics program within the schools, and provides leadership for district-wide mathematics initiatives.
The Instructional Specialist supports the design and facilitation of on-going professional development and coaching teachers and teacher leaders.
Overview:
The K-12 Mathematics Coordinator is responsible for the following to support our community, parents, administrators, teachers, and students in Vance County Schools:
- Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive mathematics curriculum for all 6-12 schools including scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, units of study, and balanced assessments
- Ensures the 6-12 mathematics program is in alignment with the North Carolina State Standards for 6-12 Mathematics
- Coordinates the selection of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks to support the implementation of the Mathematics standards
- Reviews and evaluates results of state and district assessments, and recommends appropriate modifications to the mathematics programs
- Assists with the development and facilitation of district and school-based professional learning for teachers
- Plans and facilitates weekly/monthly PLC (Professional Learning Communities) subject, grade level meetings with teachers
- Collaborates with other departments within the Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation Department as well as other divisions by providing technical assistance and support in the development and/or implementation of district programs, practices, and processes
