A Message from Superintendent, Dr. Cindy Bennett
Dear Vance County Schools Families,
Thank you for putting your trust in our district to provide the best education possible for your child(ren) this school year. All of our schools are diligently working to ensure that multiple layers of safety protocols are in place for the protection of students and staff.
Covid 19 has spiked during the past few weeks, but our schools have maintained a limited number of cases, partially due to the enhanced safety measures on school campuses and your vigilance at home and in the community. Through our partnership with the ABC Collaborative and DUKE, I participate biweekly in conversations with medical staff and local superintendents to ensure that we are current with our data and with the latest recommendations from the CDC and NCDHHS.
Positive cases have increased in our county, like all counties across the state. Please know that data collected indicates that students in a mask controlled environment are being protected at a higher rate than those not masked. There is no guarantee that the virus will be fully controlled, but masking and the other layers of protection are working. Students who are not fully vaccinated after a close contact in a classroom or other school setting if masks are being worn appropriately and consistently by both the person with Covid 19 and the potentially exposed person do NOT need to be quarantined, according to the StrongSchoolsNC: Public Health Toolkit. This is evidence that masking does protect students and staff.
Vance County Schools is a 1:1 technology district and all students have access to a personal device. Should your child be quarantined, please make sure that you are in contact with the principal and teacher to ensure that instruction continues in an asynchronous manner until they are able to return face to face.
We have exciting things planned for our students this year. The Center for Innovation is beginning its programming and students will have the opportunity to participate in various experiences on site throughout the year. This is just the beginning of our journey as we seek to FOCUS on student learning, INSPIRE students to engage and grow in an educational ecosystem where they can truly CREATE their future.
Welcome to Vance County Schools! I am Dr. Cindy Bennett and it is my honor to serve as your Superintendent. Vance County Schools is an educational ecosystem of innovation. As a community of educators, we seek to honor innovation while maintaining a laser focus on leading, teaching and learning. Our team of educational leaders is looking forward to opening our doors to each of you for our 2021-2022 academic year.
I look forward to working with schools, community members and local business partners as we focus on reimagining what learning should look like post-pandemic. With an opportunity to focus on personalized learning for students, with enhanced options for technology use by staff and students, we will continue to enhance opportunities for our students to chart their course to becoming successful contributing members of this community. If you have questions about the options for educational programs within our district, please feel free to contact one of our principals or a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet.
Vance County Schools continues to keep safety a priority. As we reopen our doors to our community, we appreciate your patience as staff focuses on the safety of our students, while continuing to provide the most effective instructional program for all of our students, PreK through grade 13. Please take time to review the district website and each schools’ website to stay up to date with important information and event details around safety as final decisions are made.
These are exciting times for us - and Vance County Schools is focused on providing the best possible educational experience for our students. With our traditional, year round and innovative schools; this community has educational opportunities that will be a great fit for all students.
