I would like to introduce myself. After working 30 years in West Virginia and Virginia, I am now at Clarke. I graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. I have taught a variety of grade levels, including Gifted K-10, Grade 2, Grade 3, and Grade 5, and Science, 3-5. Second grade is my favorite of all!
Second Grade is an exciting year at Clarke Elementary! We will learn many new skills, including 2 and 3 digit regrouping in addition and subtraction, time to the nearest 5 minutes, identifying coins and using money to solve problems, and cursive writing. One of the areas that we will need your help with is memorizing the basic addition and subtraction facts. We will need to practice reading and retelling what we read nightly. This will help us be more successful on the mClass testing. Your child should be on Level L by the middle of the year and Level M by the end of the year. Your child's reading teacher will keep you informed of your child's progress. Continue to encourage Accelerated Reading and i-Ready at school and at home. The best way to become a better reader is to read, read, read! If you have concerns, please contact me at school, at home, 434-676-1534, or cell, 434-233-2385. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support in making your child successful in Second Grade.
