Home Language Survey

The Home Language Survey process is the first step in identifying Multilingual Learners (MLs).  If a student identifies a first language other than English on the HLS or speaks another language other than English most often in the home, the student will be accessed with the WIDA Screener, our English Language Proficiency Screener.

North Carolina now has a standardized Home Language Survey. NC's HLS has been translated into the top 10 languages spoken in NC.
