Approximately 45 pre-school aged students successfully completed their participation in the school district's Mi Centro summer program.

The students received their completion certificates during a ceremony held on July 18, in the multipurpose room at Zeb Vance Elementary School.

Each of the young children wore light blue caps and gowns as they marched into the multipurpose room to begin the ceremony. A crowd of about 200 parents and other family members were on hand to celebrate their achievements. The students also sang several songs they had learned during the summer for their parents and family members at the beginning of the ceremony.

Teachers from Mi Centro led the students in their musical performances and preseted each students with their certificates.

Mi Centro is in its 18th year of operation. The summer program is hosted by Vance County Schools and is designed to prepare Hispanic students to attend pre-kindergarten and be successful as they begin their educational careers. Kim Meza, the coordinator of the school system's English as a Second Language program, leads the six-week summer program.
