Vance County Schools Announces New School Leaders

Vance County Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Edward Ortega as the new principal for STEM Early High School. Ortega earned a Bachelor’s degree from Universidad del Atlantico in English and Modern Languages and his Masters in Educational Leadership from High Point University. Mr. Ortega began his career in education 22 years ago as a teacher in Colombia and an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in the United States. He has been with Vance County Schools for 17 years. 

Mr. Ortega is excited to help shape the next generation of scholars at STEM Early High School. “Embracing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at the core, I am happy to work closely with those in the STEM community.” Mr. Ortega most recently served as the Principal of LB Yancey Elementary School and will begin his new position at STEM Early High School effective January 7, 2022.

Dr. Shannon Bullock, most recently serving as the Assistant Principal at Advance Academy, will now be the Principal of LB Yancey. Bullock received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina University, her Masters in Educational Leadership from High Point University and Doctorate from Liberty University. 

Bullock began her career in education 10 years ago with Vance County Schools as a 5th grade math and science teacher. Bullock shared, “I am excited about the opportunity to inspire, impact and influence another group of stakeholders whom I am honored to embrace as family.” Dr. Bullock will begin her new position at LB Yancey Elementary effective January 7, 2022.
