Vance County Schools Arts Alive 2022 Champion of the Arts & Superintendent's Choice Awards Winner Recipients

Arts Alive 2022 gave us a day full of art and appreciation, as our Vance County Schools students showcased their talents through visual and performing arts, as well as a culinary art experience.

The day began with a trip to the Center for Innovation, as students immersed themselves in Master Classes centered around Orchestra, Theater, Band, Drawing, and Dance. In the later part of the day, Vance County School students, families, friends, staff and the community were able to enjoy the artwork of our VCS students, as artwork was showcased in the vestibule of the McGregor Hall Performing Arts Center. While viewing the artwork, our visitors were able to indulge in a culinary delight, presented by our VCS students through The Heart of the Art, as well as meet some of the artists and their teachers. The day concluded with performing arts by our students at the Talent Showcase.

The Champion of Arts Award and the Superintendent’s Choice Award were presented at the 2022 Arts Alive Talent Showcase.

The District awarded the Vance County Schools Board of Education the Champion of the Arts award, which recognizes those who continuously support and champion for the arts in the school district. The Board of Education works in collaboration with district leadership, our VCS families and our community, to promote high-quality education for our students, with a continued emphasis placed on the arts. Thank you VCS Board of Education for your continued support of Vance County Schools!

The Superintendent’s Choice Award was awarded to Jessie Trujillo of STEM Early High School. The beautifully drawn image of a bird surrounded by ferns caught the eye of Superintendent Dr. Cindy Bennett, as well as her cabinet. This piece of art will be showcased at the Vance County Schools Administrative Services Center. All of the work completed by students of all ages and grades represented our district well with their wonderful artwork! We are proud of each and every student for sharing their talents with our community, as well as the teachers and families who supported each of them on the journey.

Please mark your calendars for next year's Arts Alive celebration, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2023.
