Vance County Schools Announces EO Young Principal

Vance County Schools is pleased to announce Dr. Jeffrey Batten as the new principal for EO Young Elementary School. Batten earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Trinity University and his Master of Science from Texas A&M University. His educational journey continued as he earned his Doctor of Philosophy from Texas A&M and his Masters in School Administration from North Carolina State University. 

Dr. Batten began his career in education 19 years ago as a science teacher in Granville County, where he was the 2014-2015 Hawley Middle School Teacher of the Year. In 2020, Batten was named an assistant principal at South Granville High School and then moved to Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, NC. Most recently, in 2022, Batten joined Vance County Schools as an Assistant Principal, having served at Carver Elementary and Pinkston Street Elementary.

“My goal as an administrator is to make EVERY student and staff member feel welcomed and valued, create opportunities that continuously encourage students and staff to learn and grow in meaningful ways, and to help them feel successful and proud of their accomplishments.” Excited to help shape the next generation of scholars at EO Young Elementary, Batten will begin his new position effective July 1, 2023.
